Akshaya Tritiya, also called Akha Teej, falls on the Tritiya of Vaishakha Shukla paksha. "Akshaya" means never diminishing, and the whole day is considered auspicious without checking a muhurat, so it is popular for weddings, buying gold and starting new work. When the tithi starts mid-morning, panchangs keep the day on which it covers the forenoon.
Good to know
Akshaya Tritiya is not a Central Government holiday. In 2026 RBI listed it only for Bengaluru, together with Basava Jayanti; elsewhere banks and jewellers stay open, often with longer hours.
