Chhath Puja is the four-day festival of Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh: Nahay Khay on Chaturthi, Kharna on Panchami, the evening arghya to the setting Sun on Shashthi and the morning arghya to the rising Sun on Saptami. Devotees fast without water for about 36 hours and stand in rivers and ponds to make the offerings.
Good to know
Pratihar Shashthi (Chhath Puja) is a restricted holiday for Central Government offices. Bihar and Jharkhand close banks for Chhath under the RBI list, in 2026 on 16 November (morning arghya).
